#QLAB MIDI TRIGGER HOW TO#
Now for the fun bit, i've always run lighting from qlab when using midi but that can be a pain when you have 100 odd cues and only want 2 sound triggers in there so heres how to control qlab from the Expression. We were contacted by a group who was using the Mac OS-based QLab software to run their show. Then go to settings -> Midi and change the default type to midi show control, also make sure here Qlab can see your midi interface and make sure it is in one of the patches. Now in Qlab head over to settings -> midi controls and make sure "Use Midi Show Control" is checked and change the device id to the Midi TX ID from the expression. Under setup -> show settings -> show control enable MSC transmit and MSC receive, then in the MSC receive channel box put the RX ID from earlier and do the same for the transmit box with the TX ID. In the settings console (setup -> exit -> settings) under local IO note down the midi RX and TX IDs, 1 and 2 by default. Midi out on expression to midi in on qlab, midi in on expression to midi out on qlab Here's a few little tips for you it seems like you have it all connected ok but just to check: MIDI Trigger: This button allows for the programmer to control QLab actions via MIDI either using a MIDI keyboard or another device that sends MIDI control. Sorry for being such a newbie.still a little new to this!ĮDIT - got it working. I don't want that to happen.I want the stage manager to be able to run the lighting board, and just have it fire the right cue at the right time. No buttons would seemed that QLab had taken control of the board. When I fired a cue in QLab, we lost all control over the lighting board. I was playing around with the hardware tonight, and it seemed like I got QLab talking to the lighting board, but I didn't really understand what was happening. Is anyone able to help walk me through (or provide a link to a tutorial) a way of setting our system up so that when the stage manager hits "GO" for a specific cue on the lighting board, it triggers the sound effect on QLab? I'm working with a MIDI-USB interface. Off the top of my head, I don't know the exact model of the lighting board, but I know it says "Expression" on it. I've looked at a few tutorials, but am a little lost. Just discovered this sub through a google search, and I'm glad I found it.įor the show we're currently working on, there is a scene where we want to be able to use the lighting board to cue certain sound cues in QLab.
